Servings: 4 sandwiches
Course: Dinner, Lunch

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds strip steak sliced into ½ inch strips
  • 2 large green, orange, or yellow peppers thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese grated
  • ½ cup asiago cheese grated
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Red chili flakes
  • Sandwich rolls

Method

  1. First, generously season the meat with salt and pepper; then add a sprinkle of red chili flakes. If you enjoy it spicy, add more chili flakes
  2. In a small saucepan, sauté the garlic. Once it becomes fragrant, add the butter, and let it melt. Once melted, give it a swirl to incorporate the two flavors. Set aside
  3. In a large pan, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and sauté the onions. Once the onions become fragrant and begin to soften, add the peppers
  4. Once the peppers begin to soften, add the meat and the mushrooms. Cook until the meat has browned, and the peppers and mushrooms have fully softened. Once that is done, set aside briefly
  5. If they are not already sliced open, using a bread or serrated knife, carefully slice open the bread rolls. Using a brush, generously brush both sides of the bread with the garlic butter
  6. Sprinkle some of the cheese on both buttered sides of the bread. Evenly divide the cooked steak and veggies amongst the rolls. Sprinkle some more cheese on top of the steak
  7. Turn your oven broiler on high and place the sandwiches below it. Cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread has toasted
  8. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Note: This recipe can also be made vegetarian by substituting the meat with Portobello mushrooms sliced the same size
